Rosie's Desert Island Discs

1. Gillian Welch - I dream a highway. Gillian always comes on my travels and this is the great value for money at 14 minutes of dreamy track

2. Nick Drake - Northern sky. Like Gillian, Nick is an old travelling friend and this is particularly beautiful

3. Mozart - Concerto for clarinet & orchestra in A major (adagio) - surely nothing in this world sounds more beautiful, I could listen to this forever and never get bored

4. The Rolling Stones - You can't always get what you want - so many reasons, youth, memories, stuck on an Island

5. Bob Dylan - I shall be released - inspired and inspiring. Something to keep my spirits and optimism going through the monsoons

6. Ben Folds Five - The Luckiest - so sad and beautiful, a reminder of
those I love

7. Joni Mitchell - Both sides now - one of the few songs I know all the words too and don't sound too awful singing it, a happy childhood favourite

8. Prince Buster - Nothing takes the place of you. This was the
toughest choice for me, the dance/happy number, I love this and it makes me smile

I would have to save Bob - I wouldn't last long without the constant reinforcement of the belief I was going to be freed from Island solitude

My book choice: War and Peace - Tolstoy. Always meant to read it and the
1500 pages would keep me going for a while, could even read it a few times and not get bored

Luxury item: A coffee plantation with roasting machine and percolator

Sally's Desert Island Discs

Songs

What a fool believes - The Doobie Brothers.

I love this song and my dad loved this song. It always seemed to be on the car when we were little.

Let there be love - Oasis
Reminds me of John, my little Liam wannabe

Girlfriend - Nelly and Justin Timberlake
Boy band and gangsta rap together - genius

The Flower Duet from Lakme - Delibes AKA the BA advert
Possibly on every now that what I call classical compilation album ever made and used in countless TV/Films/adverts, but beautiful and the piece of music we walked into the registry office with on our wedding day.

Superstitious - Stevie Wonder
The song playing when I kissed John for the first time

Wuthering Heights - Kate Bush
I like to try and dance like old Kate in this video and the most tragic love story ever.

The Brazilian - Genesis
Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and I play air drums to this (in private).

Nobody's supposed to be here - Deborah Cox
If I get to the final of X-factor, this will be the song I belt out and no doubt will allow me to win.

I'd save
The Flower Duet

Book
Ray Mears - Essential Bushcraft

Luxury Item
The best Swiss Army knife you can buy.

p.s. If I could take a person it's be Daniel Craig as no doubt I'd get rescued at some point and it doesn't count as cheating when you're stranded on a Desert Island.

Fran's Desert Island Discs

Wanna be startin' somethin' - Michael Jackson. This is the happiest, danciest song in the world. I never ever get sick of it. It's the best.

Carey - Joni Mitchell. I wouldn't go anywhere without Joni. This is one of my favourites. It was tough though.

If I were a bell - from the original 1982 cast recording of Guys and Dolls. I went to see it when I was 9. I know all the words. This is my favourite. It's so happy.

I am the black gold of the sun - NuYorican Soul. Reminds me of travelling round the world. It's a great car track. And it's very long, so good for a desert island.

Summertime - The Sundays. If Ben and I had a song, this would be it.

I just wasn't made for these times - The Beach Boys. I wouldn't go anywhere without Pet Sounds either. And it may be the most beautiful song I've ever heard.

Your time is gonna come - Led Zeppelin. I love it when the beat comes in at the beginning, it makes me swoon.

Walk on By - Dionne Warwick. I think this is my favourite Burt Bacharach song. But it was very hard to choose.

I would save Wanna be startin' somethin' just coz it's so darn happy.

My book would be A Man in Full by Tom Wolfe because it's an epic and you can get lost in it and it's very, very long.

My luxury item would be a mac laptop with broadband and I don't care what Ben says about reception. Then I could write, design, email, watch DVDs...I wouldn't need to go home.
